UPCOMING EVENTS

For the past four years, Jim Tilley has been working on mathematics more than writing. He has now published papers on graph coloring in four peer-reviewed academic journals. The focus of his research has been on obtaining new insights into the famous 4-color problem. His short memoir, The Elegant Solution, is partly about his now-deceased father's late-in-life obsession with that problem.

Jim will return to the literary scene with the release of his debut novel, Against the Wind, in September 2019.

"
The writing is brilliant and economical, especially about the environment, and there’s all sorts of information here for the taking, but essentially this is a novel of character. And a very good one. Unbelievably, this is a first novel from an author with a PhD in physics from Harvard. One can hope there will be many more."   (starred Library Journal review, August 2019)

"Tilley handles decadeslong character arcs with empathy, resulting in a resonant and humanistic novel."   (Kirkus Reviews, July 2019)

There will be book launch events and other readings for
Against the Wind in both Canada and the U.S. (both countries providing key settings for the novel) commencing in the fall of 2019 and running into early 2020. Events already scheduled are listed below.

Jim's debut poetry collection, In Confidence, was reviewed by Midwest Review.  The review highlighted the poem, "One Would Hope," and commented on the book:  Even when we have what we want out of our lives, it all too often throws curve balls at us.  In Confidence is a collection of poetry from Jim Tilley as he presents an intriguing spin of poetry that touches on life and its surprises with clarity.  Educated and well put, In Confidence is a fine debut volume, very much recommended.
